Fathers Day

Fathers Day

Happy Fathers Day to all the amazing father figures out there! Indosole's mission is to inspire people to live a more fulfilled and conscious life with every step, and there is no one more inspiring than a father. Fathers, like mothers, are pillars in the development of a child's emotional well-being. Children look to their fathers to lay down the rules and enforce them. They also look to their fathers to provide a feeling of security, both physical and emotional. For this exact reason parents are the most important people in our society as they shape our future through their children. Every change starts with education and knowledge and passing that information down to the next generation to raise and create change makers of the future.    To all fathers (and mothers) who are raising their kids to be cautious of our environment and teaching them how to make a lasting positive change, we thank you for being the pillars of our future!   Check out last year's blog to hear what all the Indosole fathers have to say! With love,  Indosole
The Lost Soles

The Lost Soles

Giving the lost souls of old sneakers soles a new life by recycling them! Saving 1,5k tires a day and turning them into the sole of slippers, Indosole is striving to not only become the pioneer of recycling but also reduce landfill waste on a big scale. With transparency, impact and universality as core drivers Indosole is continuously reworking its production process and concept to become the greenest and cleanest in the game. As a certified B Corp we are committed to the standards set forth in order to create a more ethical and open business environment.  Indosole has dedicated the last 10 years to being the environmental keepers of the future. Merging artisan skill with corrective impact, developing a laborious shoemaking process that transforms tires to soles by hand. Through this analogue technology and circular thinking we were able to save over 100K+ tires from landfills but looking at the exponential rate of industrial world waste, we realized we had to up our game. We set out to prevent the environmental hiccup of the future. A breakthrough technology was needed that could address mass scale. Indosole aspired to double growth while significantly reducing global negative impact.  Being passionate about bringing education to the masses, Indosole aims to make a shift from the evergreen talks into a more refreshing way. Indosole believes that with a fun approach the company is able to shape the shopping patterns of future generations for the better. Staying true to the Indosole Ethos and the timeless ESSNTL collection, the conscious brand has tried ways to find new materials that can be used from waste. With the SS22 collection, Indosole is bringing eco to the next level and experimenting with recycling sneakers. The result? Stylish flip flops and slippers with an iconic recycled sole in white, red and orange. We are always looking to make our products better and this season we have. With the same quality, durability and attention to detail; the new and improved slides are more comfortable and fit your fit like never before!
Mothers Day

Mothers Day

Happy Mothers Day! This year in celebration of mothers day Indosole would like to take a mom-ent to honor motherhood that is observed in different forms throughout the world. None of us would be where we are today without our moms. In an hour of today we decided to do some research on how this holiday came to be and the history behind it. Celebrations of mothers and motherhood can be traced back to the ancient Greeks and Romans, who held festivals in honor of the mother goddesses Rhea and Cybele, but the clearest modern precedent for Mother’s Day is the early Christian festival known as “Mothering Sunday.” Over time the Mothering Sunday tradition shifted into a more secular holiday, and children would present their mothers with flowers and other tokens of appreciation. This custom eventually faded in popularity before merging with the American Mother’s Day in the 1930s and 1940s. Fun fact: Did you know? More phone calls are made on Mother’s Day than any other day of the year. These holiday chats with Mom often cause phone traffic to spike by as much as 37 percent. The official American Mother’s Day holiday arose in the 1900s as a result of the efforts of Anna Jarvis, daughter of Ann Reeves Jarvis. Following her mother’s 1905 death, Anna Jarvis conceived of Mother’s Day as a way of honoring the sacrifices mothers made for their children. By 1912 many states, towns and churches had adopted Mother’s Day as an annual holiday, and Jarvis had established the Mother’s Day International Association to help promote her cause. Her persistence paid off in 1914 when President Woodrow Wilson signed a measure officially establishing the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day. Indosole wants to send out big love to all the mothers in the world! The contribution mothers bring to the world does not go unnoticed and we thank you for always raising changemakers. Check out our last year's blog post to get to know the mothers at indosole!
Earth Day

Earth Day

It’s time for collective action NOW!   Today, Friday the 22nd of April 2022, is a special day for everyone fighting the climate crisis and a call to individuals, the economy and politicians worldwide to start making meaningful change. This year’s Earth Day is being held under the theme of "Invest in our planet“ and is centered all around standing together as a society to break down barriers created by the fuel industry and to strive for a new era, in which humans allow earth to heal from the inflicted damage of the past. Nature's recovery and preservation to allow for a prosperous future for humans and animals to thrive likewise is central.  Founded in 1970, Earth day is advocating for more consumer awareness and how the habits of consumption are harmful to the environment. Earth Day has managed to mobilize millions of people worldwide to participate in eco-friendly actions, like major beach cleanups. The high relevance of the global campaign is pushed even further by the participation of influential public personas, such as actor and activist Leonardo DiCaprio, who is showing his support publicly, pushing politicians to take immediate action. "We need to act (boldly), innovate (broadly) and implement (equitably)". (EARTHDAY.ORG, https://www.earthday.org/earth-day-2022/) Because Earth Day is about taking collective action now, we want to propose a question to you: What is your contribution going to be? Even if every individual only makes a seemingly minor contribution, little things will add up and turn small actions into something that’s impactful on a big scale.  Here is a list of ten activities to participate in: Join a local cleanup event! No cleanup event nearby? No worries, just invite some friends and start your own private cleanup at a local beach, forest or even in a downtown public park! Plant a tree! Sign EARTHDAY.ORG‘'s petition to hold the fast fashion industry accountable, here: https://action.earthday.org/the-fashion-industry-must-change Educate a friend or family member! Sit down and take time to analyze your consumption habits. Ask yourself, how can I change my habits to make a positive impact on this planet? Ban at least one single-use item from your household. Plant bee-friendly flowers in your garden or balcony. Let your money do the talking: Support businesses who are demanding a sustainable approach to production. Be an online advocate and lead by example. Post about earth day and encourage others. As a certified B-Corp Indosole also feels committed to increase our positive environmental impact and continues to fight for climate justice!
Our Planet, Our Health
awareness

Our Planet, Our Health

WHO (World Health Organization) initiated the very first annual celebration of World Health Day on the 7th April 1954.   Since then World Health Day centered their campaigns on drawing attention to health related issues that concern people worldwide. Therefore, this year's focus lies on the urgent demand of the immediate shift of public attention from economical interest to health related issues connected to global warming. Likewise, WHO demands us to reimagine a world that is fair, where rich countries are not gatekeeping resources essential for living, like water, food and clean air. We need to create an economy that is focused on human well-being and give control to those affected over their health, as well as this planet's health now. According to WHO‘s estimations over 13 Million people are dying each year due to environmental causes that could have been prevented.  Since Indosole is all about repurposing already existing resources, we wanted to take the chance to raise awareness on this topic and highlight Indosoles mission. WHO made clear that with a shocking 90% of humans worldwide every single person on earth is breathing unhealthy air, which is the result of fossil fuels being burned in factories, vehicles and so on. Each year, over 1.5 Billion tires are being burned in developing countries because they are a cheap and efficient source of energy, releasing toxins into the air that have a serious negative impact on human health and on the environment. Studies found that depending on the length and intensity of exposure, risks like irritation of the skin, eyes mucous membranes or respiratory effects can occur. These fumes might also cause damage to the central nervous system, depression and cancer. Tires that are not being burned end up in landfills, where they will not decompose for thousands of years and become breeding grounds for mosquitoes contracting threatening diseases like Malaria. WHO already realized, with earth‘s temperatures rising continuously, the growing risk of mosquitoes spreading further and faster than ever before    We need to face the issues created by mankind on this planet now and answer with radical changes in our habits of consumption. The forced shutdown of many economical branches has proven to us that our planet is able to recover and reset with rivers running clear again in Venice, meaning that it is not too late to take action. But right now at this moment we are not allowed to go back to our old ways of ignoring the health of humans and of our earth. Recovery is desperately needed. Our planet is our health.

Indosole Launches in Europe

Indosole Launches in Europe

A letter from Indosole Europe - Amsterdam, The Netherlands If we cannot go to Bali ourselves, what better way to bring Bali to Europe by officially launching the brand across the ocean. As Amsterdam being our new European hub the Indosole Europe team brought together a group of people that all have something in common: doing good to the world and the environment. Whether it is maintaining a vegan lifestyle, a plastic free living or supporting sustainable fashion. The event was held at local venture, Meneer Nieges, and was set up to experience the brand up close and to learn a little bit more about how it all began when the idea of Indosole was born in 2004. As a conscious brand we are always busy spreading our message to as many people as possible. So it was only natural to spread our wings and make Europe aware of the huge tire problem we are not only facing in Bali, but across the whole world. As we are still facing the consequences from COVID-19 unfortunately Kyle Parsons couldn't physically be there himself. However a livestream connection made it possible to do an intimate Q&A session that answered everybody’s burning questions regarding the origin, current state and future of Indosole in the eyes of the founder himself. As the event evolved the venture turned into a relaxing Bali hangout. Think coconuts, delicious healthy food, relaxing music and of course loads of sustainable Indo slippers to try on. Coloured recycled tires filled up the environment and shredded tire pieces made the process of slipper making visible. Seeing everybody exploring and engaging with our slippers made us super excited about what the future has in store for us. Within Europe we are currently available in Germany, Belgium, Holland, Greece, Portugal, Spain, Turkey, Switzerland, UK, Sweden, Norway and Denmark. Our goal for coming season is to open even more markets and grow with our beloved partners. Spreading the message is the common thread within our distribution model and we can proudly say to have success with the agencies and stores who believe that they can make the difference. Thanks Europe for the super warm welcome we’ve got. Now its up to you to join us on our quest to save as many tires as possible from negatively impacting our environment! Mothers, Mothering and the Divine Feminine

This week, we’ve been asking mothers to share their 𝐌𝐎𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐇𝐎𝐎𝐃 𝐉𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐍𝐄𝐘. We interviewed two amazing moms; Cameron Lee Barnum and Maya Kerthyasa. We’ve compiled their interviews here, to serve as inspiration for other mothers (and fathers!) and as a celebration of the divine feminine. MAYA KERTHYASA 𝙱𝚊𝚕𝚒-𝚋𝚊𝚜𝚎𝚍 𝚆𝚛𝚒𝚝𝚎𝚛 𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝙼𝚘𝚝𝚑𝚎𝚛 𝚘𝚏 𝙻𝚞𝚌𝚊𝚜 𝚆𝚑𝚊𝚝 𝚍𝚘 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚎𝚗𝚓𝚘𝚢 𝚖𝚘𝚜𝚝 𝚊𝚋𝚘𝚞𝚝 𝚋𝚎𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚊 𝚖𝚘𝚝𝚑𝚎𝚛? 𝙰𝚗𝚍 𝚠𝚑𝚊𝚝'𝚜 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚑𝚊𝚛𝚍𝚎𝚜𝚝 𝚝𝚑𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚊𝚋𝚘𝚞𝚝 𝚋𝚎𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚊 𝚖𝚘𝚝𝚑𝚎𝚛? Motherhood awakens a different kind of intuition. I really learned to listen with my heart, and that’s one of the greatest joys of motherhood, for me. There’s also the undeniably delicious moments of love and cuteness and laughter. The hardest thing for me is seeing my son struggle in any kind of way, then learning to embrace that and let him experience his emotion. It’s challenging but important. 𝙷𝚘𝚠 𝚑𝚊𝚟𝚎 𝚢𝚘𝚞𝚛 𝚗𝚘𝚝𝚒𝚘𝚗𝚜 𝚘𝚏 𝚠𝚑𝚊𝚝 𝚒𝚝 𝚖𝚎𝚊𝚗𝚜 𝚝𝚘 𝚋𝚎 𝚊 𝚠𝚘𝚖𝚊𝚗 𝚌𝚑𝚊𝚗𝚐𝚎𝚍 𝚘𝚟𝚎𝚛 𝚢𝚘𝚞𝚛 𝚕𝚒𝚏𝚎𝚝𝚒𝚖𝚎? Becoming a mother gave me a deeper understanding of love, duty, and responsibility, and it made me more compassionate towards all women, including myself. For me, being a woman – with a child or without a child – is about embodying the inner mother, because mothers create, mothers sacrifice, mothers nurture, and all the women I know contribute these things to the world. Mother Earth is an intrinsic part of the feminine being. 𝙳𝚘 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚋𝚎𝚕𝚒𝚎𝚟𝚎 𝚒𝚗 𝚕𝚒𝚖𝚒𝚝𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚒𝚖𝚙𝚊𝚌𝚝 𝚠𝚎 𝚑𝚊𝚟𝚎 𝚘𝚗 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚎𝚊𝚛𝚝𝚑 𝚏𝚘𝚛 𝚘𝚞𝚛 𝚌𝚑𝚒𝚕𝚍𝚛𝚎𝚗? 𝚆𝚑𝚊𝚝 𝚜𝚝𝚎𝚙𝚜 𝚑𝚊𝚟𝚎 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚋𝚎𝚎𝚗 𝚝𝚊𝚔𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚜𝚘 𝚏𝚊𝚛? I believe all humans have a responsibility to nurture the planet. So as well as taking steps myself, I believe strongly in raising my child as a custodian – not just doing the work for him. I encourage my son to garden, to respect the spirits of the land through storytelling and prayer, and to help take care of our animals. And as a family, we choose to fuel our bodies with naturally grown food and surround ourselves with products that impact positively on the environment and other people. CAMERON LEE BARNUM 𝙾𝚔𝚒𝚗𝚊𝚠𝚊-𝚋𝚊𝚜𝚎𝚍 𝙿𝚑𝚘𝚝𝚘𝚐𝚛𝚊𝚙𝚑𝚎𝚛, 𝚂𝚞𝚛𝚏𝚎𝚛 𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝙼𝚘𝚝𝚑𝚎𝚛 𝚘𝚏 𝙾𝚝𝚝𝚘 𝚆𝚑𝚊𝚝 𝚍𝚘 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚎𝚗𝚓𝚘𝚢 𝚖𝚘𝚜𝚝 𝚊𝚋𝚘𝚞𝚝 𝚋𝚎𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚊 𝚖𝚘𝚝𝚑𝚎𝚛? 𝙰𝚗𝚍 𝚠𝚑𝚊𝚝'𝚜 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚑𝚊𝚛𝚍𝚎𝚜𝚝 𝚝𝚑𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚊𝚋𝚘𝚞𝚝 𝚋𝚎𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚊 𝚖𝚘𝚝𝚑𝚎𝚛? I’m only a month into being a mother but being able to watch him grow right before my eyes has been incredible. All the loving, feeding, soothing, snuggling, and changing endless diapers has been equally enjoyable. 𝙷𝚘𝚠 𝚑𝚊𝚟𝚎 𝚢𝚘𝚞𝚛 𝚗𝚘𝚝𝚒𝚘𝚗𝚜 𝚘𝚏 𝚠𝚑𝚊𝚝 𝚒𝚝 𝚖𝚎𝚊𝚗𝚜 𝚝𝚘 𝚋𝚎 𝚊 𝚠𝚘𝚖𝚊𝚗 𝚌𝚑𝚊𝚗𝚐𝚎𝚍 𝚘𝚟𝚎𝚛 𝚢𝚘𝚞𝚛 𝚕𝚒𝚏𝚎𝚝𝚒𝚖𝚎? Over my lifetime, especially recently, I’ve realized how incredible it is to be a woman. I’ve been lucky enough to grow up with the encouragement from a loving family that the possibilities are endless no matter the gender. However Women have this special gift of growing, birthing, and nurturing the future that has forever changed our capabilities in my eyes. 𝙳𝚘 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚋𝚎𝚕𝚒𝚎𝚟𝚎 𝚒𝚗 𝚕𝚒𝚖𝚒𝚝𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚒𝚖𝚙𝚊𝚌𝚝 𝚠𝚎 𝚑𝚊𝚟𝚎 𝚘𝚗 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚎𝚊𝚛𝚝𝚑 𝚏𝚘𝚛 𝚘𝚞𝚛 𝚌𝚑𝚒𝚕𝚍𝚛𝚎𝚗? 𝚆𝚑𝚊𝚝 𝚜𝚝𝚎𝚙𝚜 𝚑𝚊𝚟𝚎 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚋𝚎𝚎𝚗 𝚝𝚊𝚔𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚜𝚘 𝚏𝚊𝚛? I absolutely believe limiting impact with sustainable options is not only good for the earth but also my family. We’ve taken steps by cloth diapering (which cuts down tons of waste to landfills), using reusable water bottles/straws/containers, making our own household cleaning solutions, DIY organic skin care, and purchasing products that use sustainable practices like Indosole. Even just implementing one thing can make a huge difference.
Getting Food to the People Who Need It

Getting Food to the People Who Need It

So far, we have provided 1,000+ meals to those who need it in Indonesia The world as we know it is in a state of crisis. We’re fighting a handful of unknowns from a disease that many of us are afraid of (and some of us are unsure how to feel about), to a collapsing global economy and a dramatic shift in the way we interact with our family and friends. It can be daunting to think about this situation in its entirety, but as a solutions company we feel a responsibility to help out wherever we can. We’ve chosen to do this through food. Our community here in Bali is facing deep financial uncertainty right now. The tourism industry has come to a sudden halt – flights are blocked, businesses are closed, thousands are jobless. In a matter of weeks, families who were comfortably supported by the hospitality industry have found themselves with little to no income and worried about the next meal. Will Goldfarb from Room4Dessert in Ubud has been working on a solution to this since early March. He transformed his fine-diner into a soup kitchen of sorts in just six days – swapping tasting menus with takeaway, cocktails for fresh-pressed jamu and desserts for mega-loaves of sourdough. “We’ve basically launched an entirely new company in the last week,” he says. The project is called Dharma Buns and it goes much deeper than deluxe home delivery. Using the revenue from Room4Dessert’s takeaway sales, Goldfarb has been distributing fresh, nutritious house-cooked meals to local restaurant workers who have been let go by their employers. His goal is to get good food to the people who need it and spread a little optimism at the same time. “I think it’s really important to do something positive when things are bad and not only when they’re good,” he says. “We’re keeping everybody busy, keeping morale super-high. We just want to stay positive and show people that you can cook your way through any crisis.” When we heard about this initiative, it instantly hit a chord. As Will explained to us, the trickle-down effect of a project like this is pretty significant. It supports hospitality workers and their families, of course, but it also keeps small-scale farms supplying quality ingredients in business. So, this isn’t simply about feeding people, it’s about feeding people well, and sustaining responsible, non-conventional farming methods that are at risk of being lost as more businesses close. We’re getting involved by putting a portion of our sales towards meals for people who need them. The formula is simple: one pair of Indosole flip-flops feeds three hungry people and one pair of slides feeds five hungry people. Our good friends at House of PNNY are on board, too. We team-up with them regularly through our Community Assist program – they’re pretty good humans. PNNY have designed a special edition t-shirt which we’ll sell at our flagship store for Rp.500,000 – all of the profits of which will go towards distributing Room4Dessert meals. So, by purchasing one t-shirt you can help feed 20 people. We think that’s pretty special. This project launches today. We hope it’ll raise awareness, make a difference and brighten the lives of the people who need it the most right now. We’re calling on all of our family and friends to participate, whether that’s by purchasing a pair of Indosoles and a Community Assist t-shirt, or collaborating with us to add more thoughtful products to our sales list. Send us an email, DM us on Instagram, or come and see us in-store. These are small steps towards a very meaningful footprint that impacts us all.
